How to shift subtitle timing
- Drop your subtitle file above.
- Choose Shift and type how many seconds, earlier or later.
- Download the shifted file.
Three ways to fix subtitles that are out of sync
- Shift: every subtitle is early or late by the same amount (a video with a new intro, or an edit at the start). Shift from a given number when only the part after a cut is off.
- Re-sync two points: the subtitles start right but drift more and more. Give the right start time of one subtitle near the start and one near the end; everything in between is stretched to fit.
- Change frame rate: subtitles made for a 25 fps (PAL) version drift on the 23.976 fps version, a little more every minute. Choose both frame rates.
Tip: in a media player, note the time a line is spoken and the subtitle's number. That is all re-syncing needs.
Questions
How do I delay subtitles by 2 seconds?
Drop the file, choose Shift, type 2, choose Later and download. Every subtitle starts and ends 2 seconds later.
My subtitles drift more and more out of sync
That is a different speed, not a delay. Use Re-sync two points (a subtitle near the start and one near the end), or Change frame rate if you know the two frame rates (usually 25 and 23.976).
Which formats can I shift?
SRT, WebVTT and YouTube SBV. The shifted file keeps the format it came in.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The shift is done in your browser.
